News: IUIS Webinar: Utilising Ramos B cell engineering to measure SARS-CoV-2 Ab responses - FAIS Africa

July 24, 2020 | IUIS Webinar: Utilising Ramos B cell engineering to measure SARS-CoV-2 Ab responses | Immunopaedia.org.za

COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 update from Immunopaedia.org.za.

In this weeks IUIS webinar, focused on B cell immunology and was presented by Michael Reth.

Michael Reth and his team utilises CRISPR/Cas9 method to rapidly generate mutants of the Burkitt lymphoma cell line Ramos.  They used this methodology to generate Ramos B cells which lack all four components of the BCR, and can expresses the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Additionally, they designed a Ramos Spike flow protocol which allows them to test for SARS-COV-2 spike specific antibody responses and monoclonal antibodies using flow cytometry. Using these techniques they can theoretically determine how glycosylation and other protein modifications, Ab isotype and other factors affect Ab binding to the Spike protein.  The first results of their assays are discussed in the presentation.
