Survey Objective: To identify and understand problem areas and opportunities to improve and sustain the health needs of communities in Settlements, Districts and LGAs of The Gambia.
Position Description:
Healing Healthcare-Gambia is seeking an individual to serve as Local Survey Coordinator-Research Associate. The individual will be currently or plan to reside in country. The Associate will support The Gambia Andandorr Program for Health (GAP Health) core team members in collecting, analyzing, disseminating and publishing knowledge and information with government and international officials and the scientific community. These will include: creating and testing research tools, conducting data collection activities, conducting data cleaning, and writing field notes and reports.
Responsibilities:
- Support the senior team members in collecting, analyzing, and sharing knowledge and information with stakeholders.
- Communicate with government agencies (State and Local), regulatory bodies, community stakeholders, civil society, and collaborating individuals and institutions in and outside The Gambia.
- Assist in building up research infrastructure in The Gambia.
- Administer survey instruments in English and any Gambian local languages (e.g., protocol for ethical submission, information material, questionnaires).
- Coordinate survey implementation, which includes managing field staff to complete their work activities.
- Assist with the creation and testing of research tools.
- Conduct both quantitative and qualitative data collection activities.
- Support data cleaning and data management activities.
- Write field notes and reports.
- Temporal work in rural areas.
- Other activities as assigned by their supervisor.
Required qualifications:
- Advanced (MD and/or PhD equivalent) degree in disciplines related to public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, or information systems.
- Masters’ holders currently enrolled in advanced degree programmes considered.
- Equivalent work experience considered.
- Excellent oral and written knowledge of English; this is imperative, especially for scientific writing.
- Strong spirit of teamwork and initiative.
- Be able to work independently while having the skills to work well with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of at least 1 local languages.
- Computer skills, familiarity with statistical analysis packages.
Term: Six Months to One Year (Extension possible, based on possible other activities to be undertaken)
