The IDA symposium aims to create knowledge and scientific literacy in Africa by enhancing the knowledge base and skills of basic and clinical immunology research being performed by students and early-career African scientists.

We are now opening up the Virtual IDA Symposium to early-career scientists from across the world.

The IDA has the two following goals:

  1. To provide cutting-edge knowledge in the fields of HIV, TB and malaria vaccine research
  2. To enable scientific thinking and leadership of young scientists on the African Continent using innovative learning approaches.

Requirements to apply:

This 3-day virtual course is open to Masters and PhD students as well as post-doctoral fellows world-wide.

Stable internet is a pre-requisite for applying for the virtual course as it will be facilitated using Zoom. All course activities will be in English.

Flow Cytometry Course – February 2022 (in-person)

This follow up course is only open to early-career African researchers who attend the virtual IDA symposium. The goal of the African Flow Cytometry Workshop is to train the next generation of African researchers so that cutting-edge flow cytometry technology can be applied to critical studies being conducted on the continent. The specific aims of the workshop are:

  1. To train investigators in critical principles of flow cytometry
  2. To provide and foster long-lasting interactions with international flow cytometry experts
  3. To establish a flow cytometry network among African young investigators

Deadline for applications for both events: 1 August 2021

Partial and full scholarships will be available for the most innovative and outstanding research to attend one or both events, respectively.
