Opportunity: Nominations Open for the 2026 Al-Sumait Prize for African Development

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Al-Sumait Prize for African Development, a prestigious international award administered by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). The prize recognises individuals and institutions whose research, scientific projects, or innovative initiatives have made a significant and lasting contribution to sustainable development across Africa.

Awarded annually, the US$1 million prize rotates between three fields: Health, Food Security, and Education. The 2026 prize focuses on Education, recognising impactful work that improves access to quality education, strengthens literacy, supports underserved communities, and develops innovative approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence to enhance learning. Eligible nominations include individuals or institutions whose work has demonstrated measurable impact in Africa. Nominations must be submitted by eligible organisations, including universities, research institutions, scientific centres, UN organisations, previous laureates, or former evaluation committee members.

Nomination deadline: 31 August 2026
